Land Rover goes GREEN

Hybrid cars are considered as the “car of tomorrow”. It is able to effectively conserve fuel and at the same time, it only produces low levels of toxic fumes. Because of these benefits, hybrid cars are now growing in popularity every single day. Many people are now considering getting rid of their conventional cars and purchase a hybrid car to help in cutting fuel consumption cost. One of the obvious reasons why people are now shifting from conventional to hybrid cars is primarily to save on gas. Secondly, it is environmentally friendly; Hybrid cars emit lower toxic emissions compared to conventional gasoline-powered cars due to less gasoline being burned. The last yet one of the most attractive reasons are the tax incentives you can benefit from the government by purchasing a hybrid car.

To keep up with these changing consumer preference car manufacturers; such as Land Rover, Lexus and Mercedes Benz are starting to develop environmentally friendly vehicles.

Land Rover’s initiative in greening our environment and at the same time improving its brand eco-conscious image is starting to result in some exciting developments. Having already previewed its new hybrid technology in the form of the “ERAD” (Electric Rear Axle Drive) diesel-hybrid LR2 concept last year, the British SUV manufacturer is now working on a new hybrid version of its Range Rover Sport to be launched in 2012.Currently Range Rover has an excellent luxury and off-road image, but has a terrible reputation when it comes to gas consumption and emissions. According to the manufacturer, this new hybrid Range Rover should emit just 100g/km of CO2, which is far less than the only other hybrid in this segment, the Lexus RX450at 148 g/km of CO2.

The environmentally friendly Rover will operate on a 3.0-liter V6 engine, which will work in tandem with a 25KW electric motor. Land Rover often comes up with a number of different hybrid propulsion systems. They try to be different from what is available in the market. But this Range Rover Sport Hybrid will be somewhat similar to Toyota’s Prius. You can drive this hybrid Range Rover on an all-electric mode basis as well. Land Rover is still playing safe as far as the storage system goes.

Land Rover SUV’s have long been the definition of gas-guzzling SUVs that environmentalists love to hate. With the development of this hybrid vehicle, however, the company stands a good chance of becoming one of the greenest and greatest automakers in the industry.
